Special conditions:

Import Requirement Notice for Sexually Intact Female Dairy Cattle:

* Permit requirement on certificates of veterinary inspection (CVI’s) issued for ALL breeding age dairy 18 months of age and older moving into SD.

* Breeding age dairy moving into SD from a known HPAI affected herd will be subject to a risk assessment.

* Dairy cows moving to slaughter on a CVI do not need an import permit.

APPLICABLE REGULATIONS FOR THIS MOVE

  1. Official identification required.

  2. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) issued by an accredited veterinarian 30 days or less prior to entry, with official ID numbers recorded on the CVI.

  3. Import permit required and must be recorded on the CVI. Import permits can be obtained by calling the South Dakota Animal Industry Board Monday through Friday between the hours of 8AM and 5PM CST at 605-773-3321. After hours permits are handled by an answering machine at (605) 773-3321. Leave the information requested and a permit number will be issued.

Effective 6/22/2020: NO import permit required on CVIs issued for domestic livestock using approved electronic systems, EXCEPT veterinarians assigned a permanent permit number must continue to include the permanent permit on all CVIs.
